New York CNN —Trump Media & Technology Group is asking Congress to investigate its suspicions that illegal activity is driving down its share price. Nunes, himself a former Republican congressman from California, pointed to how Trump Media has been among the most expensive stocks to borrow. Nunes suggested there are signs of “naked” short selling, which involves someone selling shares they don’t own or have not borrowed. Jay Ritter, a finance professor at the University of Florida, said there are more obvious explanations for why some traders are betting against Trump Media. Last week, Nunes wrote a letter to Nasdaq, where Trump Media shares trade, alerting the exchange to concerns about market manipulation.

As long as Trump Media & Technology Group’s share price doesn’t spectacularly implode before Tuesday’s closing bell, Trump is on track to receive another 36 million shares as the owner of Truth Social. Even though Trump Media is losing money and Truth Social is very tiny, those new shares Trump is in line to receive would be valued at about $1.3 billion at current prices. Of course, Trump Media’s share price is subject to extreme volatility, meaning the value of this stake can swing wildly. ‘Grossly overvalued’Even though Trump Media’s share price has retreated since spiking to $66 last month, experts warn it remains overvalued based on fundamental metrics. Ritter, who has been studying IPOs for four decades, expects Trump Media’s share price to eventually plunge to just $1 or $2 per share.

New York CNN —The “Buffett Indicator” is flashing red. If the stock market is growing a lot faster than the economy, that could be a sign of a bubble. Yes, but: The so-called Buffett Indicator is not without flaw. By the closing bell, Trump Media ended at $57.99, up by a more modest 16% on the day. He said Trump Media is likely worth somewhere around $2 a share — nowhere near its closing stock price of $58.

Truth Social had just 494,000 monthly active US users on iOS and Android combined in February, according to Similarweb stats provided to CNN. Even Threads had more than 10 times the number of monthly active users that Truth Social had in February, according to Similarweb. The last Trump company to go public, Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts in 1995, used the same DJT ticker symbol. Like any social media business, Truth Social faces pressure to grow its user base, expand its advertising business and build a subscription service. “If he wins in November, Truth Social will probably be the primary means of presidential communication,” said Kennedy.

While occupying very different corners of the technology market, Reddit and Astera were the first notable venture-backed tech companies to go public in the U.S. since Instacart and Klaviyo in September. Morgan Stanley was the big winner among banks, having captured the coveted lead left spot on both IPOs. Goldman Sachs led last year's only two big venture-backed offerings, meaning it had been a long dry spell for Morgan Stanley. In the past two years, there have only been 15 tech IPOs total, according to research provided by University of Florida finance professor Jay Ritter. That came after a booming market in 2021, when 121 tech companies went public, the most since the dot-com bubble in 2000.

Outside of his MAGA movement, though, the social media site is struggling to find a wider audience. It’s a critical milestone for the social media site as well as for Trump, providing a path for the former real estate tycoon’s return to Wall Street. Some conservatives, looking for an alternative to mainstream social media sites seen as hostile to their point of view, initially seemed eager to embrace Truth Social. Truth Social’s hot.”Many Republican politicians and conservative have not joined Truth Social or they post infrequently. “It’s safe to say that Truth Social has not broken into the mainstream,” said Joshua Tucker, co-director of the New York University Center for Social Media and Politics.

Truth Social owner Trump Media will begin trading Tuesday as the merger closesCNN —Investors have approved a deal on Friday to make Truth Social owner Trump Media a publicly traded company. The new company will be called Trump Media & Technology Group and trade under the ticker DJT, Trump’s initials. Shareholders voted to approve Trump Media’s merger with a blank-check company, following years of legal and regulatory obstacles. Trump will own a dominant stake in a public company, with shares worth more than $3 billion at current market prices. First, experts say the market is drastically overvaluing Trump Media based on the company’s fundamentals.

If shareholders approve the merger, it would enable Trump Media to go public and Trump to own a stake worth about $4 billion. In the US, a political party’s presidential nominee has never owned a major media platform worth so much. Furthermore, the possibility of this added Truth Social muscle for Trump arrives as right-wing MAGA messaging finds more outlets at the national and grassroots levels. And, while Trump has stuck with Truth Social, X has become a haven for right-wing conspiracies of all kinds. MAGA-friendly, right-wing media is growing at the grassroots level as well.

Oil prices spiked last month following US-led strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in response to repeated attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. One factor that could be keeping the cap on oil prices is waning demand. “Global oil demand growth is losing momentum,” said the agency in its February report. While global oil demand growth is slowing, supply has stayed relatively strong, potentially putting further downward pressure on oil prices. “Higher global oil supply this year, led by the United States, Brazil, Guyana and Canada, should more than eclipse the expected rise in world oil demand,” said the report.

New York CNN —Months after leaving the White House, former President Donald Trump began plotting his return to Wall Street. US regulators have finally given the green light to a controversial merger between Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group and a blank-check company. ‘This is a meme stock’Moreover, there are major questions about the sky-high valuation being placed on this media company. He described that valuation as “crazy” because Trump Media is generating little revenue and burning through cash. One of the final remaining hurdles is for Digital World shareholders to approve the merger in an upcoming vote.

Digital World’s share price spiked 88% to 19-month highs on Monday alone. Since Trump’s landslide victory in the Iowa caucuses on January 15, Digital World shares have more than tripled. That in turn drives the share price even higher, creating further losses for short-sellers. Jay Ritter, a finance professor at the University of Florida, expressed shock at the stock spike for Digital World. Neither Trump Media & Technology Group nor Digital World responded to requests for comment.

DoorDash said on Thursday that it will transfer its listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq, a potential blow to the NYSE. "We are delighted to join a community of leading technology companies with our transfer to Nasdaq," DoorDash Chief Financial Officer Ravi Inukonda said in a statement. The NYSE has been attempting for years to secure more tech company listings and gain share against the Nasdaq. DoorDash initially began trading on the NYSE in December 2020, with a price of $182 per share. Its debut came at a popular time for tech IPOs, within months of the IPOs of Airbnb , Roblox and Wish , the discount marketplace.

With retail investors holding individual stocks for less than a year on average, recent history suggests they could lose money, a Reuters analysis shows. Even institutional investors invited to buy into those 10 IPOs before trading would be down an average of 18%. "For almost all retail investors, buying and holding a low-cost index fund is the best strategy." Arm's debut and an upcoming listing from grocery delivery service Instacart are expected to rejuvenate a lackluster IPO market which has slowed over the past two years due to volatility and economic uncertainty. Instacart will be offering some retail investors a chance to buy into its IPO via underwriter fintech company SoFi, its prospectus said.

NEW YORK, Aug 18(Reuters Breakingviews) - Instacart may finally be in the market for new investors. The grocery delivery company is set to submit an initial public offering prospectus to regulators as soon as next week, Bloomberg reported. Fund managers were on a shopping spree when Simo was appointed Instacart’s boss in August 2021. The slow IPO delivery has spoiled the goods. Alphabet (GOOGL), Meta Platforms (META), Ford Motor (F) and Estee Lauder (EL) are the four Club holdings that maintain a dual-class structure. Dual-class stock structures generally designate shares as part of Class A or Class B, with one carrying more weight than the other. Google Co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page took their nascent firm, now Alphabet, public in 2004 with a dual-class stock structure. Advantages A dual-class structure allows founders, C-suite executives or key investors to maintain control and execute their long-term vision for the business. Bottom line Dual-class shares are not ideal, but they're not a deal breaker either.

The stock exchange operator's actions come amid a surge in the shares of Chinese companies that raise small amounts, typically $50 million or less, in their IPO. Nasdaq started asking the advisers of small Chinese IPO candidates questions in mid-September. Seven sources who work on IPOs of small Chinese companies spoke to Reuters on the condition that neither they nor their clients be identified. LOOPHOLESNasdaq's intervention underscores how liquidity standards it adopted in the last three years to prevent stock manipulation in small IPOs have loopholes that Chinese companies are exploiting. There have been 57 listings of small Chinese companies in the last five years, up from 17 listings in the prior five years, according to Dealogic.
From the best of times, to the worst of times: The market for initial public offerings has fallen off a cliff in 2022. The decline has been striking given the record level of proceeds raised through public markets just a year prior. U.S.-listed companies raised over $155 billion in proceeds in 2021 through their initial public offerings, according to data from EY and Dealogic. Part of the clog in the IPO pipeline has been caused by the dismal performance of companies that went public in 2021, Gerring said.
